The Best Cafés in Napa: 10 Coffee Shops and Bakeries
By Matthew Martinez, Founder, CEO & Managing Broker, Diamond Real Estate Group. California DRE #01869679.
The best cafés in Napa for coffee and pastries include Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Co. on Main Street, Ritual and The Model Bakery at Oxbow Public Market, Naysayer Coffee Roasters, Sweetie Pies and Butter Cream Bakery. For a sit-down breakfast, Boon Fly Café in Carneros and Southside Century are local standbys.
This list replaces our 2023 version. Several places on that list have since closed, including Monday Bakery, the Napa General Store and Southside’s original Carneros café, so we checked each spot below against its own website in October 2026. Hours change often, so confirm before you go.
Most are in the city of Napa, with a few up-valley stops for days spent in Yountville or Calistoga.
Downtown Napa coffee
1. Napa Valley Coffee Roasting Co.
710 Main Street. Roasting coffee for the valley since 1985, this is the classic downtown café: espresso drinks, drip from house-roasted beans, and a busy morning crowd of locals. Good for buying a bag of beans to take home.
2. Sweetie Pies Bakery
520 Main Street, in the historic Napa Mill. A full bakery and café with daily pastries (muffins, scones, croissants, coffeecake), quiche for breakfast, and pies, cakes and bars to take away. A good stop before a walk along the riverfront.
Oxbow Public Market
The market on First Street gathers several coffee and pastry counters under one roof, which makes it an easy meeting spot.
3. Ritual Coffee Roasters
610 First Street. The San Francisco roaster’s Napa outpost serves carefully made espresso and pour-overs, and stays open into the early evening.
4. The Model Bakery
644 First Street, Building B. Known above all for its English muffins. The bakery also has a location on Main Street in St. Helena and a small “Mini Model” counter in Yountville. Johnny Doughnuts, also at Oxbow, is next door if you want something sweeter.
Neighborhood roasters and old-school bakeries
5. Naysayer Coffee Roasters
Two Napa shops: inside Food City at 1813 Old Sonoma Road, and at 2022 Redwood Road in west Napa. A family-owned roastery with a neighborhood feel and early hours, popular with commuters heading toward Highway 29 or Highway 12.
6. Butter Cream Bakery & Diner
Jefferson Street. Family-owned since 1948, Butter Cream is a holdover from pre-tourism Napa: doughnuts, pies, cookies and cakes in the bakery case, and classic diner breakfasts cooked on a vintage griddle at the counter. Bakery orders are taken by phone.
Breakfast cafés
7. Boon Fly Café
At Carneros Resort and Spa on the Carneros Highway. A roadhouse-style café serving brunch daily as walk-in and dinner by reservation. Hot doughnuts served in a bucket are the signature start. Convenient for anyone driving in from Sonoma or San Francisco.
8. Southside Century
135 Gasser Drive, in the South Napa Century Center off Imola Avenue. A bright, casual spot for breakfast and lunch, open mornings into early afternoon. It is now the company’s remaining café after the Carneros and Yountville locations closed.
Up-valley stops
9. Bouchon Bakery, Yountville
6528 Washington Street. Thomas Keller’s bakery is known for croissants, pain au chocolat and macarons. Lines form on weekends, so go early. Pair it with a walk around Yountville.
10. Calistoga Roastery
1426 Lincoln Avenue. A small-town coffee house at the north end of the valley, with breakfast served until late morning. Closing times are early, especially on weekdays. A good start to a day in Calistoga.
Also worth knowing: Oakville Grocery on Highway 29 in Oakville opens at 7 a.m. for coffee and breakfast to go, a convenient stop between Napa and St. Helena.
