Larkspur’s Seven-Day Shuttle: The Small Connection That Shapes a Train-and-Ferry Trip

Larkspur offers both a SMART station and a Golden Gate Ferry terminal, but the two are not the same stop. SMART places them approximately half a mile apart. For some travelers, that walk is a comfortable part of the trip. For others, a shuttle is an important link between the train platform and the boat.
SMART Connect Larkspur expanded to seven-day service in April 2025. Its current operating information adds useful detail for a homebuyer evaluating rail and ferry access: service areas differ on weekdays and weekends, and a shuttle ride should not be treated as a guarantee of a very tight connection.
A daily service with a defined operating area
SMART’s Fiscal Year 2025 annual report records the expansion to seven days a week. The current Larkspur shuttle page identifies the station, ferry terminal and surrounding Larkspur Landing as its weekday area. On weekends, the area extends to The Village and Town Center shopping malls in Corte Madera.
This is a defined connection service, rather than a promise of pickup from any address carrying a Larkspur or Corte Madera name. A household considering the shuttle for errands or commuting should check the current map and designated pickup points for the specific trip.
Plan a connection that has room to work
The operator explicitly advises riders to follow published train-ferry connections. Trains and ferries do not wait for the shuttle, and capacity or routing can prevent accommodation of transfers shorter than 15 minutes. Reservations are recommended because seating is limited; space-available boarding is also described.
That guidance changes how the trip should be evaluated. The right calculation is not simply the shortest possible drive between the two stops. Allow time to leave one vehicle, reach the pickup point, board, travel and reach the next departure. A connection that works comfortably is more useful than one that requires every step to occur at its minimum.
The walking alternative remains part of the comparison
SMART’s connections page identifies the approximate half-mile separation between the station and ferry terminal. The shuttle provides an alternative for passengers who find that walk challenging.
For a buyer who expects to use both modes regularly, trying the complete route can be informative. Walking speed, carried items and comfort with the connection vary from person to person. A route that feels easy on a leisurely afternoon may feel different when returning from work with a bag or trying to meet the next departure.
Weekends support a different kind of outing
The expanded weekend area creates another possibility: combining rail travel with a shopping or dining destination in Corte Madera. That does not make the weekday and weekend networks interchangeable. It means the same service can support different trip patterns on different days.
Someone evaluating a home for a weekday commute should examine weekday coverage and hours. Someone interested mainly in occasional weekend trips can assess the weekend pattern. Keeping those purposes clear avoids giving a location credit for a connection that does not operate when it would actually be used.
Bring the first and last parts of the trip into the home search
A listing’s distance to the station is one useful fact, but it is not a complete travel plan. The first connection from home, the station-to-ferry link and the route beyond the ferry terminal all contribute to the result.
A household may prefer a home with a simple walk to one mode, or accept a longer approach in exchange for features that matter more at home. Testing the whole trip makes that tradeoff concrete. It also reveals whether the train-and-ferry option is likely to become a routine or remain an occasional convenience.
